A dry van is a large, solid-sided trailer, typically white, that is pulled by a semi-tractor or heavy-duty truck. The tractor unit connects to the dry van using a fifth-wheel coupling, which features a large, inclined flange plate that secures the kingpin at the front of the trailer. This setup allows for maneuverability and flexibility, as the tractor can detach from the trailer for easy loading and unloading.
